Description
This 1962 Chevrolet Impala sport coupe was refurbished and modified during prior ownership, which reportedly included refinishing the frame, repainting the bodywork in Torch Red, reupholstering the interior, and installation of a 496ci V8 paired to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission. During prior ownership this example was modified with a Bel Air-style “Bubble Top” greenhouse, and the trim was removed and shaved before the body was refinished in Torch Red. Additional modifications include a cowl-induction hood scoop and bumpers refinished to match the wheels, and the windshield wipers have been removed.
Billet Specialties 20″ wheels with gray centers accented by polished lips are fitted with staggered-width Nitto tires. Disc brakes are fitted at all four corners, and the lowered suspension is equipped with CPP components.
A red monochromatic treatment is carried throughout the interior, including the dashboard as well as the replacement vinyl seat coverings and door panels. The car features a floor-mounted Hurst shifter, an Ididit tilting steering column, and a Bluetooth-capable stereo mounted within the stock opening.
Dakota Digital gauges are recessed within the factory openings and feature a 140-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer as well as readings for coolant temperature and oil pressure. The digital odometer shows 600 miles, with total chassis mileage unknown.
The 496ci V8 was installed during prior ownership and features aluminum cylinder heads and a Comp Cams hydraulic roller camshaft. Cooling is from an aluminum radiator paired with dual electric fans, and other additions include an MSD ignition as well as a pair of Holley carburetors fitted atop an Edelbrock cross-ram intake manifold. The battery has been relocated to the trunk.
The replacement four-speed Muncie manual transmission sends power through a GM 9″ Positraction rear end with 3.53:1 gearing.
